Early Life and Formation
Squadron Leader Peter B. Anala’s life was rooted in strong moral values and deep faith from an early age. A proud alumnus of St. James Seminary Senior High School, he belonged to the 2007 Year Group and was affectionately called an “ɔhoteni” — a term that reflects the brotherhood and shared identity of St. James Old Boys.
From his formative years, Peter embodied the school’s cherished motto: Sincerity, Fidelity, and Perseverance. This foundation would go on to shape his worldview, personal discipline, and commitment to service.

Education and Faith
The Catholic faith was not merely an aspect of Peter’s life — it was a guiding force. At St. James, he absorbed an education grounded in both academic excellence and moral formation. His old-boys’ association describes him as a “true Catholic gentleman” whose faith remained central throughout his life.
He was an active member of the Catholic Church, offering his time, talent, and devotion to the mission of Christ and the welfare of the faithful. His religious convictions influenced his leadership style, his approach to challenges, and his dedication to the people he served.
Military Career
After completing his secondary education, Peter joined the Ghana Armed Forces and pursued a career as a helicopter pilot. Over the years, his competence, discipline, and professionalism earned him respect across ranks, culminating in his promotion to Squadron Leader.
Peter’s military service was marked by:
- Courage and precision in his duties.
- An unwavering commitment to excellence.
- Leadership built on integrity and the safety of others.
He inspired colleagues, mentored younger officers, and was recognized for putting the needs of his team and country above his own.
A Leader Beyond the Uniform
While his military role brought him national recognition, Peter’s service extended far beyond the barracks and airfields. He was deeply involved in church activities, parish life, and charitable works. His humility and professionalism made him a role model not only to his peers in uniform but also to members of his community.
The St. James Old Boys Association (JOBA) fondly remembers him for his loyalty in friendship, steadfastness in duty, and perseverance in every challenge.
The Tragic End
On 6 August 2025, Peter was on board a military helicopter heading to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme. The helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The accident claimed the lives of several individuals, including two cabinet ministers and other government officials.
The news shocked the nation and left his school fraternity, the Armed Forces, and the Catholic community in mourning.
Tributes and Legacy
Following the crash, tributes poured in from all sides:
- JOBA described him as “a true Saint — steadfast in duty, loyal in friendship, and persevering in every challenge.”
- The Ghana Armed Forces and Catholic community recognized his sacrifice as both a national and spiritual loss.
- Friends and colleagues remembered him as a man who lived for others, a leader whose crown now awaits him in eternity.
Peter’s legacy is one of selfless service, faithfulness to his calling, and unwavering dedication to God and country. Though his life was cut short, the values he lived by will continue to inspire all who knew him.
